Former CWU Running Back Bryson Kelly Signs with Oakland Raiders

Two-Year Wildcat Ball-Carrier Joins Silver & Black as a Fullback

Former CWU running back Bryson Kelly signed with the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League.
OAKLAND, Calif. (Aug. 8) -- Former Central Washington University running back Bryson Kelly has signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League, the club announced on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Kelly, who played for the Wildcats during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, is listed as one of three fullbacks on the Raiders' roster as they continue with their pre-season camp in Napa, Calif.

Over the course of his two seasons in Ellensburg, Kelly ran for 1,387 yards on 299 carries with 11 touchdowns in 21 games played. Included among those totals were three 100-yard games (out of eight played) during his senior season last fall, with his 246-yard effort against Simon Fraser University on Sept. 25, 2010 ranking as the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in CWU history. Kelly was a first-team all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection in 2010 after serving as a back-up during the 2009 campaign.

The Mukilteo native attended Kamiak High School and played for two seasons at Santa Ana College prior to joining the Wildcats.

Kelly is one of four former Wildcats currently on professional football rosters in North America. Former teammates Mike Reilly and Adam Bighill continue their regular season with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League, while former Wildcat quarterback Jon Kitna is in his 16th National Football League season as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

Oakland opens its four-game pre-season schedule on Thursday (Aug. 11) at home against the Arizona Cardinals. The Raiders, coached by first-year mentor Hue Jackson, also has pre-season contests scheduled against San Francisco (Aug. 20), New Orleans (Aug. 28), and at Seattle (Sept. 2).
