SPOKANE (Feb. 20) -- Central Washington University senior outfielder
BRETT BIELEC (Port Orchard/North Mason HS) has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week for baseball, the conference office announced Monday. He shares this week's award with Western Oregon first baseman Bo Folkinga.
Bielec was 9 of 16 (.563 average) with three multi-hit games, including two 3-for-4 outings. In Central Washington's first contest, a 12-3 win over Saint Martin's University, he scored four runs, stole two bases and drove in a run. In four total games, Bielec swiped three bases and had three RBI.
The 5-foot-10 outfielder is leads the club in hitting with a .421 batting average, which also currently ranks second in the conference. He became the first Wildcat batter to win Player of the Week honors since former infielder Kevin Walkenhauer won the award during the final week of the 2010 season.
Central Washington is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Mar. 3, playing its first home games of the 2012 season with a doubleheader against Whitworth University starting at noon.
