ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Jan. 21) — After a standout performance at the University of Washington Indoor Preview last week, the Central Washington University men and women's indoor track and field team will compete Friday at the Idaho Collegiate indoor meet at the University of Idaho, in Moscow.
It will be the first event of 2015 at which the entire CWU women's team will participate, along with most of the men's squad.
"We're excited for this one because we're going to get a look at [nearly] the full 2015 roster," said assistant track and field coach
Brittany Aanstad. "Idaho will be a great opportunity to see how many events we can win and see how we compete."
CWU head coach
Kevin Adkisson added, "They're ready and it's going to be really fun to get the meet done and see where we stack up."
Last week's top men performers,
Luke Plummer,
Kevin Stanley and
Armando Tafoya are expected to perform well in Idaho this Friday. Stanley and Tafoya are leading the men's roster in throws at first and second. Sprinter
Kent McKinney Jr. is also ranked second overall in the GNAC.
"Kent's within two one-hundredths of the national qualifying standard," said Adkisson. "It's really exciting for him to be at that level right away."
For the women, pole-vaulter
McKenna Emmert and thrower
Becki Duhamel are ranked first in the GNAC; with Duhamel topping both the shot put and weight throw categories.
Coming off of a successful season with the CWU women's cross-country team, distance runner Dani Eggleston will also make her first debut of the season for the Wildcat track and field team.
"I think Dani will be ready to go and we're looking forward to seeing what she can do," Aanstad added.
In 2014, the Idaho Collegiate indoor meet was held over two days. This year's event, which will comprise just one day, will feature a number of NCAA Division I competitors, including from Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga, Idaho State and the host Vandals.
