BRADENTON, Fla. (May 28) -- Central Washington University senior
Tayler Fettig finished second in the high jump at the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships to capture her second all-American honors in outdoor competition.
Â
"I felt great going in and injury free for the first time in awhile," Fettig said. The first jumps felt amazing; it felt like I was flying. The bar got close to my PR and I still felt great, but it just wasn't there for me."
Â
Fettig was one of just three athletes to clear 1.73 meters on their first attempt, helping her finish tied for second, which is the same place she entered the championship.
Â
In fact, Fettig had clean jumps in her first four attempts before missing 1.76 meters. Only national champion Emilee Iverson cleared 1.76 on the day.
Â
In total, Fettig ends her career as a three-time all-American, earning one in the indoor national championships as a junior.
Â
"It is a true blessing [to be a three time all-American], this year showed all the hard word and dedication I have put in," Fettig said. "I have been training and praying everything would go well and I was able to stay consistent throughout the year. I am thankful to have a great support group from my family, friends and teammates, but all the glory goes to God.
