Patton was a two-time first-team All-American defensive tackle, earning the distinction during the 1988 and 1989 seasons, and earned Columbia Football Association Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior. In his two seasons with the wildcats he totaled 130 tackles, 30 for loss, and 13 sacks. His efforts helped the Wildcats to a 19-2-1 record over two years including two playoff victories. Signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers in 1990.
