Slavens remains one of the greatest sprinters in Central history, having set the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.0 seconds in 1972. He was also a member of the school-record 4x100 relay team (40.9 seconds) in 1972, and he won NAIA District 1 championships in the 100 yards in 1971 and the 220 yards in 1972. Following his standout running career with the Wildcats, Slavens has had a highly successful coaching career at Fife High School in Tacoma, helping the Trojans’ track and field team to five top-ten finishes at state including the 1985 state title.
