HarLee Ortega won the heptathlon at the Sam Adams Classic with 4,913 points. Ortega was just 139 points away from her own school record of 5,052 points. Ortega owned the top spot after the first day of competition, and did what she needed to do to stay there. Ortega leaped 5.30 meters in the long jump. Then, Ortega threw the javelin 34.55m (113-04), a mark that earned her third place in the event. The mark was also a new personal best for Ortega. Ortega scurried to a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.52.
