What We Do

Study Hall
The FRC has multiple services that it provides to student-athletes (SA’s). The first being a common place for SA’s to convene. The facility has chairs, desks, tables, couches, and a place to check in and out. Freshmen are required to use this space for at least 4 hours a week, all three of their first quarters on campus. Following their freshman year, SA’s will qualify for required hours based on their grade point averages.

Academic Mentorship
All SA’s can participate in academic mentorship. There are two ways they can receive this support and that is:
    1. Coaches require them to participate as a condition of their participation on their team. This is the less common avenue for participation.
    2. SA's sellf-identify that they could benefit from additional support and request to participate. this is the more common avenue for participation.

Academic Mentorship requires SA’s to meet one on one with a mentor (often a fellow student-athlete) on a weekly basis. This mentor serves as an intermediary for any of the SA’s academic goals. Mentors are trained on resources on campus as well as life skills such as time management.

            Tutoring Services
Student-athletes can receive tutoring from any of the FRC’s tutors, so long as they are taking a course associated with that tutor. Currently, the tutoring program has focused on Math, English, and core sciences (Chemistry and Biology). Open tutoring sessions are available on Monday and Tuesday Nights. If a student would like a one-on-one session, they can make an appointment through the FRC staff.

       Compliance
The FRC is not in charge of compliance for the Athletic Department, but they are capable of offering information regarding eligibility concerns. If a student has questions, they are able to make an appointment or drop in and ask questions with the Director at any time.

       Academic Resources and Planning
The FRC will also assist any student-athlete regarding academic resources, university resources, and academic planning. This can be through meetings, team meetings, and emails. Additionally, there are several events throughout the year designed to help student-athletes keep track of their academic progress and ensure they are taking the proper coursework to complete their degree.
