Trevor Richards

Trevor Richards was named Head Coach in May of 2018 after serving as the Interim Head Coach for the 2017-2018 season.

The South African native also served as the men's graduate assistant and backs coach from September 2016 to May 2018.

Before CWU, Richards spent a year in San Diego as a skills coach at the Institute of Rugby, as well as, a backs coach for the Encinitas Coastal Dragons, where he worked with all levels of teams. Richards worked under former USA 7s captain and coach, Matt Hawkins and former USA Eagle Hannah Lockwood.

Prior to the Institute of Rugby, Richards was an assistant coach for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Men's Team from August 2014 to May 2015. There he was in charge of the back-line and general skill development of the team. This was Richards second stint coaching at his alma mater, where he had previously been an assistant coach from August 2010 to October 2011.

Between his stints at Nebraska, Richards served as the Director and Head Coach of the Nebraska All-State Rugby Team before moving to Seattle in 2011.

In Seattle, Richards worked for the locally based rugby company, Atavus (formerly Serevi), from November 2011 until September 2012. There he served an administrative role, as well as, a skills coach for their various camps and clinics the company put on.  Richards worked under tutelage of rugby greats Waisale Serevi, Ben Gollings, and a number of other international players and coaches.

During his time in Seattle, Richards also played a season at OPSB (now Saracens) before hanging up the boots. Additionally, Richards was also a defensive and skills coach for the Washington Loggers for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Richards graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2010 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in History.  At Nebraska, Richards was a Collegiate All-American in 7s and was in the USA 7s National Team Player Pool for the 2009-2010 season. The highlight coming with a tour to Fiji where Richards represented the USA in competition.Â
