Wildcats Help Team Washington Win Fourth Straight Washington vs. Northwest Team Meet

Central Men Finish Eighth, Women Ninth in Overall Team Scoring

SPOKANE, Wash. (Apr. 9) -- The Central Washington University track and field team recorded a total of 64 season's best marks combined in its 38 events, highlighting a busy day on the track and field circuit at the fourth annual WAR (Washington vs. Oregon/Idaho/Montana) hosted by Community Colleges of Spokane.

The Wildcats' efforts, which resulted in 30 men's team points and 27 2/3 team points for the women, helped the Washington schools win the multi-team scoring meet for the fourth straight year. Schools from Washington posted the top four men's point scores (Eastern Washington 124 1/2, Washington State 109 1/2, Whitworth 80, Spokane CC 76 1/2), while schools from the Evergreen State placed second through sixth. Central's teams were eighth and ninth in the men's and women's competition, respectively.

Three men's marks were overall season's bests, as sophomore Brennan Boyes (Puyallup, Wash.) posted a four-inch (10-centimeter) improvement on his automatic conference-qualifying mark in the high jump and junior James Cho (Arlington, Wash.) debuted with a leap of 13.53 meters (44 feet, 4 3/4 inches) in the triple jump. Junior Manuel Santos (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis HS) also posted the top 5,000-meter time by a Wildcat this season, clocking in at 15:45.94. Overall, a total of 33 men's marks were season's bests in their respective events on Saturday.

On the women's side, freshman Chelsea Genther (Burlington, Wash./Burlington-Edison HS) posted an automatic qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles (15.16) and sophomore Katharine Lotze (Benton City, Wash./Kiona-Benton HS) improved upon her long jump mark to a CWU season's best 5.07 meters (16 feet, 7 3/4 inches) to highlight 31 individuals' season's best marks. Adriana Mendoza (Zillah, Wash.) also had a sub-19-minute time in the 5,000 meters, finishing in 18:51.64, and sophomore Chelsea Padrta (Spokane, Wash./Mount Spokane HS) posted the fastest 400-meter hurdle time by a Wildcat this season at 1:10.65.

The Wildcats will return home for their lone home meet of the season, the Spike Arlt Invitational at Tomlinson Stadium next Saturday (Apr. 16).
