Women's Pole Vault Results
TURLOCK, Calif. (May 27) -- Central Washington University junior Kaitlin Davis (Tumwater) cleared 3.67 meters (12 feet) in the women's pole vault, which was good enough to tie for seventh place and earn her All-American honors at the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday evening at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.
Davis, in her first year competing for the Wildcats, cleared the first three heights of the competition on her first attempt each time. She then had multiple solid attempts at the next height, 3.77 meters (12 feet, 4 inches), but was unsuccessful clearing a mark at what would have been a CWU school-record height. Davis set the school record of 3.73 meters (12 feet, 2 3/4 inches) at the Ken Foreman/Ken Shannon Invitational on May 7.
With her top-eight finish, Davis helped the Wildcats secure at least one All-American in outdoor track and field for the ninth time in the past 11 seasons. She is the 18th outdoor All-American for CWU -- including the ninth female -- since 2001.
Lauren Stelten of Minnesota State University, Mankato, won the event with a stadium-record height of 3.97 meters (13 feet, 1/4 inch). Davis tied with Karis Anderson of Western Washington for the top mark among four Great Northwest Athletic Conference competitors in the event.
Davis' competition in the women's pole vault on Friday evening concluded the 2011 season for the Wildcats. She was joined in Turlock by senior hammer thrower Torrie Self (Kent/Kent-Meridian HS), who placed 15th on Thursday in her final collegiate event.
