Fettig Cruises to Heptathlon Win at WWU Multi-Events

CWU Sophomore Scores 3,999 Points, Wins by Nearly 650 Points

Sophomore Tayler Fettig accumulated 3,999 points and cruised to victory in the women's heptathlon at the WWU Multi-Events.
Meet Results: WWU Ralph Vernacchia Invitational (includes WWU Multi-Events) / Washington vs. Region (WAR VI)

Central Washington University sophomore Tayler Fettig (Olympia) posted the top mark in four of seven sub-events in the women's heptathlon, totaling 3,999 points and cruising to the multi-event title at the WWU Multi-Events on Friday and Saturday at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

Fettig had the best mark in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and long jump among the six competitors in the heptathlon. Her best event was the high jump, where she cleared 1.66 meters (5 feet, 5 1/4 inches) as part of the multi-events. Fettig set a CWU school record in that individual event with a height of 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8 1/2 inches) earlier this season.

Team points scored from the Multi-Events counted towards the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational team scores, although just three Wildcats -- Fettig and men's distance runners Nathan Minor and Nick Spencer -- competed in Bellingham this weekend. The rest of the team was in action at the Washington vs. Region (WAR VI) meet in Spokane. Results from that meet have not yet been received as of Saturday night.

CWU will have its lone home meet of the 2013 season next weekend, as participants will converge on Tomlinson Stadium for the Spike Arlt Invitational. Preliminary rounds of throwing events will take place on Friday evening (Apr. 19), with the majority of the meet taking place on Saturday (Apr. 20).
