PULLMAN, Wash (Oct. 11) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team competed in the Palouse sevens tournament Saturday and won each of its three games outscoring their opponents 126-5.  The final two games of the tournament were cancelled due to weather.
"We had a great day today and we had a lot of fun," CWU Head Coach
Tony Pacheco said. "Unfortunately mother nature didn't allow us to compete the rest of the day, but we have to keep the welfare of our student-athletes at the top of our list."
The Wildcats scored in bunches in the fast paced sevens matches defeating Washington State 41-0, Gonzaga University 35-5 and Boise State University 50-0.
In the first matchup against WSU, freshman wing
Dominic Lindstrom stole the show, scoring three of the Wildcats seven tries, accounting for 15 of the 41 points.
"Dom did well with the opportunities he was given by his teammates, "Pacheco said about the play of Lindstrom.  "He is a finisher, and his big 60-meter run in our first match was proof of his ability."
Central Washington used a well-balanced attack in its second victory over Gonzaga with three different players touching down in the try zone, led by All-American
Vili Toluta'u who had two of the team's five total scores.
"Vili is very active, and a nuisance to the other team," Pacheco explained. "His great work rate gave him the opportunity to get some open tries.
Again the Wildcats spread the wealth in the final match of the day with six players scoring tries with
Scott Dean leading all players with 13 points, which included a try and four conversions in the 50-0 win over Boise State.
"I think Scott was great and this was by far our best game of the day as a team, "Pacheco said. "It was a clinical performance.  We shared the ball and it was a very well rounded match for us."
Up next the Wildcats will host their first matches of the season with the NCRC Sevens Tournament starting  at 10 a.m. next Saturday Oct. 18.
