ELLENSBURG, WA - The Central Washington University men's rugby team (6-0 overall, 5-0 Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference) retained the Cascade Cup over rival Western Washington University with a comprehensive 94-0 route of the Vikings.
The Wildcats scored 16 tries from 10 different players including a penalty try. Central opened the scoring in the fourth minute when center
ZACH SIEMENS found a gap and raced over the line. Eight-man
ALADDIN SCHIRMER would soon follow scoring the first of his three tries on the opening half. Schirmer would help lead the Wildcats to a 44-0 halftime lead.
In the second half the Wildcats had the wind at their back and would run in eight second half tries. Leading the way in the second half was
JACOB BATES who scored a hat trick on the day.
TANNER BARNES finished off the Vikings with a 60-meter run for a score at full time.
"We put together an impressive performance for our first home match of the season" head coach
Tony Pacheco said. "We always look forward to the Cascade Cup and performing well against Western."
It will be a quick turnaround for the Wildcats as they host the Eagles of Eastern Washington University 1 p.m. Sunday at the Nicholson Pavilion fields.
