ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Oct. 17) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team swept its three matches in day one of the NCRC 7's tournament over WSU Tri-Cities, Idaho State, and Boise State.
"This is where we want to be," CWU Head Coach
Tony Pacheco said. "The boys put in a good effort."
Dominic Lindstrom opened the scoring in the first minute against Tri-Cities with his first try of the match, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead. Lindstrom recorded a hat trick with two more tries in the fifth and eighth minutes.
"Dom [Lindstrom] is electric; he's got quick feet which helps account for a lot of his tries," Pacheco said afterward. "We were able to move the ball around and get him into space and then he's a lot to handle."
Ian Wright added a try in the third minute. After the first nine minutes the Wildcats held a 27-0 lead after an additional try from
Corey Nuti.
In the 10
th minute
Simi Ratukalou found the score sheet with his only try of the match, extending CWU's lead to 34-0.
Tri-Cities picked up its only try in the 14
th minute.
Shelby Williams closed the scoring with a try in the 15
th minute. Central came away with a 48-5 win.

In their second match, the Wildcats recorded a 50-0 victory over Idaho State.
Cameron Marek found the try line in the third minute to open the scoring.
Seth Halliman wasted no time giving the Wildcats a second try, grounding the ball in the 4
th minute. He added a second try in the 12
th minute.
"It was good for Seth [Halliman] to get his first run as a Wildcat and get him used to his teammates," Pacheco acknowledged. "You can see his talent is there and it comes down to him getting more comfortable with the guys around him, which he did as the day went on."
Aladdin Schirmer,
Vili Toluta'u,
Maverick Schirmer,
Scott Dean, and Nuti each recorded a try against the Bengals. Wright kicked three conversions. Ratukalou,
Fabian Lumsden, and Toluta'u each kicked a conversion.
In the final fixture against Boise State, the Wildcats scored six tries for a 40-5 victory.
"I don't think we were as sharp as we could have been at times, but I am happy with their performance," Pacheco noted. "We will look to improve tomorrow, both our performance and the product we put out on the field tomorrow will be a little better than it was today."
Marek again went over the try line early. Wright and Dean added tries two minutes apart to close the first half.
Halliman notched a try in the second half. A. Schirmer recorded a pair of tries late in the second half, sealing the game for the Wildcats.
