LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Feb. 14) – Junior pitcher
Lindsey Kamphuis threw a two-hitter in the game two as the Central Washington University softball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 8-3. The Wildcats lost their first game of the day 7-1 to third-ranked Dixie State.
Kamphuis (2-0) struck out six batters in game two as the Wildcats Improved to 3-1 on the season. This was her second win in two days, her first coming in a relief effort in game one yesterday.
Game One – 7-1 Loss to #3 Dixie State The game remained scoreless through two innings, with the Wildcats largest threat coming in the first as
Sammy Morris and
Taylor Ferleman each singled to lead off the inning, but the Wildcats were unable to produce a run.
The Redstorm stuck first scoring three runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-out two-run homerun. Dixie State added to their lead scoring three more runs in the fifth inning.
The Wildcats lone tally came in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Morris scored on a DSU error.
Dixie state added an insurance run in the seventh to walk away with the 7-1 victory.
Game Two – 8-3 Win over Cal State Dominguez Hills The Wildcats opened up the scoring in the first inning when Ferleman scored on a Toros' error to go ahead 1-0.
The game went scoreless until the seventh inning as Wildcat starting pitcher Kamphuis held the Toros to just 1 hit through six innings. In the seventh the Wildcats rattled off seven hits and scored seven runs to take an 8-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning. Morris, Ferleman,
Austin Wilkerson,
Andrea Hamada and
Alexa Olague each drove in runs in the inning.
The only other hit the Toros got off Kamphuis came in the final inning and gave them all three of their runs on a three-run homerun by Alexandra Mootry.
The CWU softball team will play its final game of Desert Stinger tomorrow at 11:30 against Eastern New Mexico University.
