ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 13) -- Pitchers
Kiana Wood and
Lindsey Kamphuis were dominant for the Central Washington University softball team as the Wildcats grabbed two wins over Northwest Nazarene Friday afternoon as Frederick Field. The Wildcats won game one 6-1 and 9-2 in the nightcap.
Wood (5-2) and Kamphuis (4-4) both threw complete games and combined to strikeout 16 batters and allowed just eight hits with just one walk.
"Kiana and Lindsey were both aggressive and attacked their weaknesses very well," CWU Head Coach
Mallory Holtman-Fletcher said about her two starters. "Lindsey settled nicely and finished strong, and Kiana had a very solid outing, keeping her pitch count down which is huge and I am excited to see how they perform tomorrow."
In game one Wood had a perfect game through six and a third innings before giving up her first of two hits. Kamphuis gave up a run in the first inning of game two but settled down and didn't allow the Crusaders to score again until the sixth inning.
Game One – 6 to 1 win The Wildcats used a balanced offensive attack in the opener with
Austin Wilkerson,
Andrea Hamada,
Laura Steiner and Wood each driving in a run.
Central Washington scored at least one run in every inning with the exception of the second.
Wilkerson went 4 for 4 in the game driving in her run on a double to left center in the fourth that scored
Kailyn Campbell.
Sammy Morris, Campbell, Steiner and Wood each had two hits in the game as the Wildcats outhit the Crusaders 15-2.

Game Two – 9-2 Win The Crusaders scored in the top of the first inning and carried a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
Central Washington third baseman,
Alexa Olague, hit a double off the bottom of the left centerfield fence in the bottom of the fourth that scored Hamada and
Shelby Yasuda, giving the Wildcats a 2-1 edge. Four batters later freshman
Celine Fowler drove in a pair of runs on a single plating Olague and
Katie Focher.
Hamada would essentially put the game out of reach with a big two-run home run in the fifth that scored pinch runner
Michaela Hazlett, giving CWU a 7-2 lead.
Our bottom half of our lineup was came up really clutch for us in game two," Holtman-Fletcher said concerning the offense in the nightcap. "Hamada had a good approach from game one to game two, and Alexa made some adjustments that paid off. The big performance from my perspective was
Katie Focher going 2 for 3 and playing very solid defense on some tough ball hit her way."
