CWU Men's Rugby Head West for Two Matches

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 4) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team will play a pair of matches this weekend in Seattle against the University of Washington and the Eastside Rugby Club.

Both matches will be played in the 15's bracket as they will be just the second and third contests of the season. The Wildcats are looking to rebound from a close four-point loss in California two weeks ago against the Olympic Rugby Club.

"The areas of the game we need to improve on specifically are doing the hard work early to get in the right place to be successful," Pacheco said. "I felt two weeks ago we were a bit passive in our set up.

The first match will be played on the campus of the University of Washington. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

"The guys have been anxious to get outside," Head coach Tony Pacheco said. "Spirits have been high while inside, but this is a neat opportunity to see what we got."

Pacheco will be rolling out a younger lineup versus the Huskies, in more of a developmental type approach, but expectations will still be high.

"We are going to put out a younger side versus UW, so we will need to pay attention to detail," Pacheco said. "UW will try to attack us up front and we will need to match that."

The second match of the day will be played at Magnusson Park at 4 p.m.

"There will be a few former Wildcats out there for Eastside," Pacheco said. "I believe they are going to try and slow the pace of the game down to suit them. It will be our job to play the game at the pace we want."
