Lacey, Wash. (Apr. 29) – The Central Washington University softball team won both of its loser out contests Friday, defeating Concordia 9-6 in the first game, then blanked Saint Martin's 8-0 in the night cap.
The Wildcats will now go on to face Western Oregon tomorrow win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship at Noon. The Wildcats will have to defeat the Wolves twice to win the GNAC Championship.
Freshman pitcher
Kayla Smith earned both victories for the Wildcats Friday, the first in relief and the second a complete game shutout.
Yesterday, the Saint's held the Wildcats scoreless and surrendered just three hits. Today, Smith returned the favor allowing no runs on three hits with just one walk and three strikeouts. That victory was Smith's second of the day.
"
Kayla Smith was definitely our MVP today," CWU Head Coach
Mike Larabee said. "She came in and sawed off a few bats and really hit her spots. She carried that over to the second game and when you couple that with the way we hit today, I am not surprised by the outcomes."
8-0 Win over Saint Martins
The Wildcats struck first with
Celine Fowler hitting a leadoff double, and advanced to third on a fly out by
Kailyn Campbell.
Alexa Olague hit a single to the left centerfield gap that plated Fowler.
The score remained at 1-0 for the next three inning before the Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by
Andrea Hamada that scored
Taylor Ferleman. Campbell came to bat with the bases loaded and two outs and nearly hit a grandslam, but the ball was ruled to have been just foul of the leftfield marker.
Alexa Olague led the fifth inning off with a solo homerun to left field, and the Wildcat bats stayed hot collecting seven hits in the frame, ending with an RBI single by Campbell to shut the door on the Saint's 8-0, enforcing the mercy rule.
9-6 Win over Concordia

The Wildcats answered back with a single by
Alexa Olague that scored

Tammy Wilkening who pinch ran for Olague.
Concordia added an equalizing run in the top of the second, but CWU responded with a three-run second inning sparked by a two-run double by Campbell that scored
Celine Fowler and
Rachael Johnson.
The Cavaliers added two more in the third inning on a towering homerun to right field to close the CWU lead to 5-4. In the fifth Concordia scored twice more in the fifth inning to regain the lead at 6-5.
