SAN FRANCISCO (Oct. 22) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team finished day one of the West Coast 7's with a 3-0 record and a score differential of 122-0.

The Wildcats open play with a quarterfinal fixture against UCLA at 10:40 a.m. PT.

This page will be updated throughout the day with scores and information from each match.

QUARTERFINALS vs UCLA
The Wildcat offense was dominant in the first seven minutes.  Dominic Lindstrom tallied twice, while Scott Dean and Cole Zarcone added a try each.  Ian Wright knocked through a pair of conversions.  The Wildcats scored 24 unanswered points in the first half.

The second half swung towards UCLA, as the Bruins rallied for 21 unanswered points, scoring the final try at the final whistle.

"Really happy with the guys in the first half," CWU Head Coach Todd Thornley said.  "We moved the ball well and got the ball into the right guys hands.  It was a bit of a lack of discipline and penalties that put us in a bad spot.  We got caught 'ruck watching' as I call it.  Not too happy with the second half, but happy with the win."

Central Washington takes on Cal at 1:40 p.m. in the semifinals.

SEMIFINALS vs Cal
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the second minute after Cal was awarded a yellow card on the kick-off for a high tackle, Zarcone scampered his way through the Bears' defense to give Central the lead.  Wright added the conversion.

Jack Wendling gave the Wildcats insurance in the fourth minute, taking an offload and breaking through the Bears' line for a 14-0 advantage.

The Wildcats poured on the scoring, putting up 19 unanswered points with a try from Wright.  It was only in the final minute of the first half the 2017 defending 7's National Champion Cal Bears were able to find the scoreboard.  The teams broke for half with a 19-7 score line in favor of the Wildcats.

Halfway through the second half, Zarcone found the try line again.  His second try of the contest extended the lead to to 26-7.

Thorney dipped into his reserves for the final minutes, bringing on freshmen Carlos Gomez, Elijah Tafao-Braganza, Max Riseham, and Jackson Cooley.  The young guns stayed their line, allowing just one try, and held the victory for the Wildcats, 26-12.

"We got a nice lead off the start," Thornley said.  "Cole was simply outstanding.  He was the best player on the pitch, elusive, and Cal didn't know how to handle him.  Guys did a great job in the first half.  The guys did a great job to hold on and get a big win against Cal.  Very proud of the guys and now we have one more."

The Wildcats play in the finals at 3:40 p.m. against Arizona.
