Men's Rugby Penn Mutual Collegiate Fall Classic: Day One Update

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 4) – On the home pitch of the San Jose Earthquakes, the Central Washington University men's rugby team opened the 2017 Penn Mutual Collegiate 7's Rugby Fall Classic.

QUOTABLES
"Happy with the performances today, in what was tough playing conditions at times," CWU Head Coach Todd Thornley said.  "At one stage we had 6 freshman on the field together which bodes well for the future. Game 2 was our most complete performance so far this year so hats off to the guys. Now we need to win the recovery battle and load up for a big one in the morning against a good Arizona side."

OPENING MATCH v USC
Ian Wright scored twice, while Cole Zarcone and Tresten Keys each added a try in the Wildcats 27-5 rout of the University of Southern California.  The Wildcats held the Trojans to just one try, after holding them scoreless two weeks prior at the West Coast 7's.

During the fixture the Wildcats fielded a squad with six freshmen.

The Wildcats take on San Diego State at 5:50 p.m. for their second fixture of the tournament.

SECOND MATCH v SDSU
The Wildcats soundly handled San Diego State, 43-0, in their final match of the day.  Jack Wendling opened the scoring for the Wildcats before Dominic Lindstrom, Keys, and Scott Dean each scooted their way in for a try in the first half.

Zarcone, Max Riseham, and Carlos Gomez all added a try in the second.  Dean converted four kicks, while Jackson Cooley notched one.

The Wildcats take on Arizona, who they beat in the finals of the West Coast 7's, at 10:40 a.m.  Should the Wildcats beat Arizona, they advance straight through to the finals at 4:38 p.m.  If the Wildcats lose, they play at 1:32 p.m. in a knockout match to advance to the finals.
