Taylor Ferleman went 7 for 9 leading the Wildcats' offensive charge as the softball team swept Simon Fraser University by scores of 11-2 and 10-1 (five innings).
The Wildcats are now 12-5 on the season and 4-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Simon Fraser falls to 6-10, 2-4 in the GNAC.
The CWU offense lit up the scoreboards, totaling 30 hits, and 21 runs, with four two-run homeruns on the day.
Jacie McDaniels hit two, one in each game, with Ferleman and
Kailyn Campbell adding the other two.
In the opener, the Wildcats erupted for 11 runs on 16 hits, and a trio of two-run homeruns. Early in the contest, the Wildcats pieced together three runs on a groundout by
Julia Reuble, a two run single by
Taylor Ferleman, and a sacrifice fly by
Kayla Ellis, to take a 3-1 lead after three.
Ellis singled home another run in the fifth, then the Wildcats capped the game with three two-run big flies from
Jacie McDaniels and Ferleman in the sixth inning, followed by Campbell in the seventh.
Five different Wildcats recorded multiple hits on the day, led by Ferleman with four, followed by
Sammy Morris and Campbell with three.
Kiana Wood improved to 5-1 on the season in the complete game victory. Wood allowed seven hits, two earned runs, with one walk and one strikeout.
The Wildcats did the bulk of its damage in the third inning of game two, plating seven runs on six hits and one SFU error. Rachel Johnson and
Sammy Morris both reached on infield singles, and after a two RBI double by Campbell, McDaniels sent a two-out offering over the center field wall to put the Wildcats up 8-0.
The Wildcats added to their lead in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by McDaniels that scored Morris, followed by a run scoring ground out by Reuble.
Starting pitcher
Kayla Smith did not need much help holding the Clan to just four hits in the five inning affair, and the one run came on a solo homerun with one outs to go in the final inning. Smith walked just one batter, struck out two to improve to 5-4 on the season.
The Wildcats will finish off the road trip with a Monday matchup with Western Washington University starting at 1 p.m.
