ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 29) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team takes on Brigham Young University in a reverse fixture.
"A great opportunity to measure ourselves against what I believe is the best collegiate team in the country," CWU Head Coach
Todd Thornley said. "Last time out we got a very big dose of reality and that hurt us both individually and collectively as we simply did not execute under pressure. I'm excited to see how we respond, playing in Provo is a great challenge for our program".
In the first meeting between the two sides this season, BYU handed the Wildcats a 46-24 loss. The Cougars jumped out to an early start, scoring in just the 12
th minute. They went into the half with a 31-7 lead.
Central Washington cut the deficit in the second half, but the Wildcats struggled to find space inside their own 22-meter line.
Sinclair Clinton,
Jeremy Lenaerts,
Beau Davis, and
Larry Peneueta each scored.
The Wildcats are coming off of a 31-29 victory over the University of Victoria, while the Cougars faced a hearty opponent in the Glendale Raptors and fell 41-39.
In the lone meeting between CWU and BYU in 2015, the Wildcats fell 58-27 in Provo.
"We have had a great few days of practice after a good win last week," Thornley added. "I expect a much more clinical performance from our student-athletes. We know we must execute on both sides of the ball to have a shot at winning this game, the belief is there which is huge however only complete 80-minute performance will be sufficient against a powerhouse like BYU".
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Provo, Utah. The match will be streamed live via YouTube.
