ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Apr. 15) – The Central Washington University men's rugby fell in the quarterfinals of the Varsity Cup to the United States Naval Academy, 27-24 in double overtime.

"Disappointing result today for us as the recurring theme of not performing under pressure presented itself again as we failed to deal with what navy threw at us all day," CWU Head Coach Todd Thornley said afterward.  "Full credit to navy they fronted up at home and won the big moments in this game."

The Wildcats got the first try of the contest in the third minute.  Alex Mackenzie found his way over the try line and Simi Ratukalou knocked the conversion through.

Navy responded by scoring twice in succession, once in the 24th and once in the 38th minutes.  The score at halftime favored Navy, 14-7.

Larry Peneueta scored in the 45th and 62nd minutes, with conversions by Ratukalou and Ian Wright

Navy levelled the score with a penalty and a try, 21-21.  Navy then converted a penalty in extra time for the 27-24 victory.

"Proud of the progress we made as a program this year both on and off the field," Thornley added.  "We will thoroughly review our performance off and on the field and look forward to next year. I would like to thank the graduating seniors for leaving the program in a better place then the found it, change is hard but I am blown away by their ability to adapt so quickly."
