ELLESNBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington softball team lost a pair of Monday contests against Saint Martin's University, losing a game one thriller 10-6 in 10 innings, and falling 7-1 in game two.
The Wildcats still sit atop the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with a 19-5 conference mark, and are now 32-10 on the season. Saint Martin's improves to 21-14 on the season and 14-8 in the GNAC.
Game one lasted three hours and eleven minutes, with the Saints – who were the designated home team – ending the game on a walk-off grandslam in the 10
th inning.
The Wildcats held a 3-0 lead after
Kailyn Campbell,
Rachael Johnson and
Celine Fowler each drove in runs on base hits.
Saint Martin's took a 4-3 lead after scoring a pair of runs in both the second and third innings.
In the top of the fourth, Campbell send a 0-2 pitch over the left centerfield wall, to tie the game at 4-4. The homerun was Campbell's 11
th of the season.
Kayla Smith came in relief for the Wildcats in the third inning and held the Saints from scoring in the final four innings of regulation to help the Wildcats force extra innings.
In the eighth inning,
Sammy Morris walked to lead things off and came around to score on a run scoring single by Johnson, giving the Wildcats a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the frame.
The Saints got the first two batters on base in the eighth, advancing them to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. After a Smith forced a foul out, the Wildcats opted to intentionally walk Mary Dettling, the Saints' top hitter. Unfortunately, the first pitchout to Dettling soared past the catcher and the Saints tied the game on the wild pitch.
With the bases loaded, Smith induced a ground ball to end the inning, keeping the scored knotted at 5-5.

Paige Liikala, handing CWU a 6-5 advantage.
Saint Martin's tied the game with two swings, and with the bases loaded Alyssa French sent Smith's offering over the left field fence to give SMU the final 10-6 win.
Campbell went 3 for 5 in game one with two RBI, and Fowler went 2 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI.
Central Washington trailed from beginning to end in game two, with SMU scoring three runs in the first and third innigns to take a commanding 6-1 lead. The Wildcats lone run came on a Campbell single in the third, where Fowler came around to score on a fielding miscue by the Saints' outfield.
The Wildcats totaled six hits in the nightcap, all singles, while the Saints mustered 10 safeties with five extra-base hits.
The Wildcats will wrap up its regular season schedules this coming weekend when they travel to Oregon to take on Concordia University on Saturday, Apr. 29, followed by a Apr. 30 matchup with Western Oregon.
