QUOTABLE
"Washington State should be a great match-up for us following a tough loss to Lindenwood last weekend," CWU Head Coach
Trevor Richards said. "We need to get our season back on track and WSU should be the stiff competition we need to see how we have progressed during the week. We've got a few players in new positions, so it'll be interesting to see how they adapt. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find much film on WSU, so I can't comment too much on how they play, but I do know of the personnel they have and they're a skilled and dedicated group that no doubt will be amped up for a battle on our home pitch. Needless to say, we need to bring it for all 80 minutes."
SCOUTING WASHINGTON STATE
The last time Central Washington and Washington State met, the Wildcats came away with a 36-7 victory on Oct. 29, 2016.
Central Washington put up 17 points in the first half, including a try from
Fumie Reyes. The Cougars responded with a quick try after the second half opened, but second a pair of second half tries from the Wildcats put the comeback out of reach.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats fell to No. 1 Lindenwood University, 60-0. The Wildcats held the Lions close in the first half, only allowing 17 points.
Central asked questions offensively, but the Lions' defensive line held and kept the Wildcats out of the try zone.
"The first half was a lot better, that was the rugby I was proud of," Richards said afterward. "We left a few opportunities out there on offense, but we controlled the first half decently well. In the second half we switched off and we weren't launching on defense or finishing our tackles. The good news is the issues we had today are fixable and we will get some key pieces of our lineup back. Proud of the team's effort today and we will continue to learn and grow."
