LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats hosted Washington State, steamrolling the Cougars 83-10 on October 13. The team's win was powered by the A'au sisters. The trio compiled six of the 12 team tries for the Wildcats.Â
Suiluana Sooialo A'au got the Wildcat offense going in the 5th minute of the game. Sui's run towards the try zone started on the right side of the field when she broke free. She went on to touch the ball in the middle of the try zone, setting up a manageable kick for Leah Marie Ingold. Ingold's kick was good, giving the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead. Sui scored four trys on the day.Â
Tiana A'au found the try zone in the closing seconds of the first half. She battled her way past defenders before sticking the ball on the ground for a try. Tiana's effort gave the Wildcats a comfortable 52-5 lead going into halftime.Â
It didn't take long for Tiara A'au to complete the A'au sister hat trick. Tiara's try came as the opening score of the second half. She was met by defenders just yards shy of the try line, but smashed her way through potential tacklers who couldn't bring her down.
Michel Navaro had a big day for the Wildcats as well. The sophomore out of Fallbrook, California had two tries on the day. Brooke Mullins made a nice run down the sideline before diving in for a Wildcat try. Paige Wyatt scored a first half try as well. Wyatt picked up a loose ball after a WSU scrum and showed off her speed as she dashed into the try zone.Â
Lauren Odette scored her first collegiate try in the late stages of the contest. Gabriella Garcia showed a strong leg, nailing both of her two attempts at conversions.Â
FROM THE COACH
"BYU is always a tough matchup and we're expecting a physical confrontation with skills to match," head coach Trevor Richards said. "Like us, they're early on in their team development and so it could be a bit scrappy here and there, but no doubt it will be an entertaining affair. For us, I'm looking to build upon what we've constructed in the last month and make sure that we keep progressing. The injury toll has mounted and so we're a bit thin in a few key areas. The squad will be leaning on those players that have tussled with BYU before; as they know that Provo is a tough place to play between their fan support, the altitude, and the 12+ hour bus ride the day before. Overall, we're excited for what should be a great match against an always welcoming BYU team."
NEXT TIME OUT
The Wildcats return home to host UBC on November 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
