Quick Starting 'Cats Take Down Chaminade 8-4

WAIPAHU, Hawaii – The Central Washington University softball team concluded its Hawaiian road trip with an 8-4 victory over Chaminade University Sunday afternoon.  Game two was cancelled due to lightning.
 
The Wildcats finish the five-game swing with a 3-2 record, pushing its season mark to 6-4.  Chaminade remains winless on the young season at 0-3.
 
The Wildcats continued its trend of scoring early by pushing two runs across in the first inning on a RBI double by Julia Reuble followed by a Katie Kastning single to return the favor.
 
Up 2-0, Central piled on five more runs in the second to gain a 7-0 lead.  Bethany Balucan led the inning off with a walk, and Rachael Johnson laid down a bunt single to third to give CWU two baserunners with no outs.  Savannah Egbert then reached on a sacrifice bunt with Balucan sliding in safe on the play at third.
 
The Wildcats would rattle off three more hits that inning highlighted by a Jacie McDaniels double that plated two runners.  Celine Fowler, Reuble, and Theresa Moyle each drove in a run in the second inning as well.
 
Fowler picked up her second RBI of the game in the fifth inning on an infield single to give CWU an 8-1 lead.
 
Kayla Smith pitched her way to her second win of the season (2-0) going five strong innings, allowing five hits and just two earned runs.  Lexie Strasser pitcher the final two innings, giving up two hits but no runs to go along with two strikeouts.
 
CAT STATS
-- Celine Fowler went 1 for 4 and extended her hitting streak to 20 games dating back to last season.  She ended 2017 on an 11 game hitting streak and has one in all nine games played this year.
 
-- Savannah Egbert went 2 for 2 to improve her season average to .531
 
-- Julia Reuble went 3 for 4 with two RBI and lead the team with 13 on the season.
 
-- The Wildcats have now scored in the first inning of all but one game this season.  The Wildcats are outscoring its opponents 14-7 in the first inning and 18-9 in the second.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will get a few weeks off before opening Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at home against Montana State University Billings on Mar. 10 & 11 for a pair of double headers.
