ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 23) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team welcomes the University of Idaho to the Wildcat Rugby Pitch on Saturday (Feb. 24) for a developmental fixture.
"This is a great opportunity for our young Wildcats to apply the last three weeks of training under the stress of match conditions so we are very grateful for the Vandals to make the trip to Ellensburg," CWU Head Coach
Todd Thornley said. "With playing at home we want to play some enterprising rugby as we continue to sharpen our sword for a big month of D1A play in March. This match is all about our performance and I am very interested to see our hard-working freshman put their hand up for the month that follows."
The Wildcats will send out a youthful squad this weekend, with 16 suited players being either freshmen or sophomores.
The Vandals finished 5-0 last spring, including a 4-0 league record. This fall, the Vandals took sixth place in both the ThunderDome 7's and BSU 7's before winning the NCRC 7's Bowl Championship.
In their lone league game before the new year, the Vandals fell 44-34 to Eastern Washington University in Moscow, Idaho.
Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Wildcat Rugby Pitch.
