Wildcats Take on Vikings, Host Colorado

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 7) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team has a pair of fixtures this week, including a home fixture against D1A opponent Colorado.

The Wildcats open the week with a fixture on Thursday at Western Washington University.  The Vikings are a USA Rugby D1-AA member.

"We are excited to put the Cascade Cup on the line against a quality Western side tomorrow night," CWU Head Coach Todd Thornley said.  "Our 13 freshman have been given the responsibility to lead the way and put a performance on the board that is worthy of retaining the cup and elevating their level of play after putting in some hard work on the training pitch."

The Vikings and Wildcats have not met since 2015, when the Vikings travelled to Ellensburg for the NCRC Tournament.  The Wildcats recorded a 132-3 victory and claimed third in the Cascade Cup.

The Wildcats will send a young side to take on the Vikings on Thursday.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Central Washington then comes back home on Saturday (Mar. 10) to take on the University of Colorado.

"It's great to be hosting Colorado two days later as we will rely on our depth and senior leadership to get us a much needed win in D1A play," Thornley noted.  "Colorado are a well organized side so our success hinges on our ability to stick to our identity while all 15 student-athletes nail their core roles and the small details consistently under pressure. The guys are excited to play on our home pitch again and eager to put out a good performance for our program."

The Buffs went 1-1 last week in a pair of XV's fixtures against the University of Southern California and Saint Mary's University.  Murry Ian Wallace's side compete in the Rocky Mountain Conference of D1A Rugby.  The No. 15 Colorado is 5-0 on the season and have outscored opponents 314-54.

Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Rugby Pitch.
