PORTLAND, Ore. – The Central Washington University softball team lost its opening contest in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships as the Simon Fraser Clan held the Wildcats to just one hit in the 9-0 shutout.
The Wildcats lone hit of the contest came in the bottom of the fourth inning off the bat of
Rachael Johnson to break up Alli Stachoski's perfect game bid. Stachoski used 77 pitches in the five-inning game and struck out two batters.
The Wildcats found themselves in a large hole in the first inning where the Clan pieced together four runs on four hits to take a 4-0 lead after one. Simon Fraser added three more in the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Kylie Sweeney pitched the final 3.0 innings in relief of
Lexie Strasser and gave up one earned run and induced seven ground outs.
Johnson, who went 1 for 2, also stole her 19
th base of the season and her 51
st of her career.
The Wildcats will look to extend its season tomorrow when they play either Northwest Nazarene or Western Oregon at 4:30 p.m. in a loser out contest.
