SEATTLE, Wash. (Feb. 23) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team defeated Valley Kangaroos, 73-7.
"Content with the score line given the conditions and Valley being very physical," CWU Head Coach
Todd Thornley said. "We had poise and discipline to stick to the game plan and executed at a decent rate. Now time to review our first half of the season and keep moving forward to what will be a very tough month of March."
Marques Fuala'au opened the scoring, giving CWU a 5-0 lead. John DuPree added the second try for a 10-0 advantage.
A cross kick from
Lewis Hollidge found
Cole Zarcone, who rumbled in for a try and a 15-0 lead. Alex Mackenzie was next across the try line with Hollidge adding the conversion.
Leading 22-0, the Wildcats surrendered the lone Kangaroos' try. Zarcone responded with his second try of the contest for a 29-7 lead. Alex Cleary then found the try zone for a 34-7 lead.
Zarcone netted the hat trick with his third try off of an offload from
Reuben Ludick.
Max Riseham then found his first try before
Jake Szumski added the conversion, bringing the score to 39-7.
Noah Wright scored a try off a cross kick from Riseham, before the forwards drove over the maul and
Diego Damian-Hernandez found the try zone. He added his second try, of the same nature, minutes later for a 63-7 lead. Damian-Hernandez notched a hattrick with yet another maul drive try.
Before Damian-Hernandez's hat trick, however, Siddique Newkirk netted a try for the 68-7 advantage.
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday (Mar. 9) at Tomlinson Stadium for a fixture against Colorado State. Kick-off is slated for noon.
