PROVO, Utah (Mar. 21) – The Central Washington University men's rugby team fell to Brigham Young University 24-17.
The Crimson and Black opened the scoring with a team-built try with
Kawika Macy sneaking over the line for an early lead.
Reuben Ludick tacked on the conversion, bringing the Wildcats' lead to 7-0. The Cougars responded with a try of their own, levelling the score at seven all.
Max Riseham then barreled his way into the try zone and, with Ludick's second conversion, gave Central a 14-7 advantage.
After Brigham Young University tied the game at 14-14, a penalty kick from
Henry Foster gave Central a 17-14 lead.
The Cougars scored a pair of tries to nab a 24-17 advantage, which they held for the victory.
"Tough one to swallow, we did enough to win but couldn't quite close out the game," CWU Head Coach
Todd Thornley said. "We will take away a lot of learnings from this one. I'm proud of the effort, but we must learn to execute under pressure when the big moments come."
Central Washington is back in action on Saturday (Mar. 23) for a fixture against Utah Valley. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM (MT) in Orem, Utah.
