Pitching Shines in Softball Split

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Central Washington University softball team split its doubleheader with Western Oregon University.

QUOTABLE
"We left too many runners on base," CWU Head Coach Alison Mitchell said. "Our pitchers were fantastic today and we owed Sam [Stanfield] more runs in game one. Our defense was fairly strong all day and I was happy with our reads. We will continue to put it all together, I'm always watching to see us grow each game."

GAME ONE | CWU 1 WOU 2 (8 Innings)
The Wildcats (4-4) dropped an extra inning affair in the series opener. Samantha Stanfield (0-1) tossed a gem in the circle for Central. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out six over 7.1 innings.

Central scored its only run in the contest in the third inning. Gracee Dwyer worked a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single from Alee Cruz. Allie Thiessen then laced an 0-1 offering to center for an RBI single.

A two-out single up the middle from Western Oregon (1-1) in the bottom of the sixth brought home the tying run. After neither team brought around a run in the seventh, they headed to extra innings. A lead-off walk turned into a run three batters later on a walk-off double.

GAME TWO | CWU 11 WOU 0 (6 Innings)
Rhaney Harris (2-1) notched a complete game shutout as the Wildcats scored 10 runs in the sixth inning for an 11-0 victory. Harris allowed just four hits over six innings, striking out four, and walking just one.

Central broke the 0-0 deadlock in the top of the fifth inning, when Theresa Moyle reached on a fielder's choice and Cruz scored from third.

The Wildcats then put up a double digit scoring effort in the sixth. Makenna King came around to score on a single from Myiah Seaton. After Dwyer laid down a sacrifice bunt, and reached on a throwing error, Cruz drew a bases loaded walk to score Keegan Wise. Two batters later, Harlee Carpenter singled to center and brought around Dwyer. Moyle followed suit with an RBI single of her own for a 5-0 lead.

Maddy Zerr laced a 1-1 pitch to center, driving in both Thiessen and Carpenter. Moyle came around to score on a wild pitch, making it 8-0 CWU. After Sydney Brown's second hit of the inning, Wise drew a five-pitch walk to load the bases again. Seaton reached on a fielder's choice and picked up another RBI, before Dwyer roped a double to center for an 11-0 lead.
