Hall of Fame Fridays: Paul Harshman

It's time to highlight another member of the CWU Athletics Hall of Fame. Each and every Friday through early August, in partnership with Legends Casino, Wildcatsports.com will highlight legends from CWU's past. This is the fourth installment of Hall of Fame Fridays.

Paul Harshman was a standout on both the CWU cross-country and track & field teams between 1979-84. At the time of his induction, he still held CWU's 3,000- and 10,000- meter records, ranked second all time in the 5,000 meters, and 10th in the 1,500 meters.

Harshman placed third in the 10,000 meters to earn All-American honors at the 1984 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national meet. In addition, Harshman took seventh in the 5,000 in 1984 and 11th in the 10,000 at the 1982 national meet.

He also led the Wildcats to four consecutive top-10 finishes at the NAIA national cross-country meet.
Following his college career, Harshman continued running competitively. He won more than 30 road and track races throughout North America and finished second in the 1992 Seattle Marathon.

A renowned jazz musician, Harshman currently serves as the Director of the University of Washington Studio Jazz Ensemble, and Band Director at Hamilton International Middle School in Seattle.
