ELLENSBURG, Wash.—Central Washington's
Jack Wendling has been chosen to the USA Rugby U23 roster for this weekend's RubyTown 7s invitational tournament at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colo., August 20-22.
Wendling, a fifth-year senior for the Wildcats, is one of 13 players invited to participate in the event. This is the latest vote of recognition for Wendling, who earlier this summer was named as a finalist for the Rudy Scholz Award.
"Jack continues to grow his game and mature into one of the elite collegiate rugby players in the country," Wildcats head coach
Todd Thornley said. "Jack has all the physical tools to continue his development out of this pathway and into the international game if he continues to work hard in all core skills of the game. We are excited to see him compete at a high level before he returns to CWU for his final season."
RugbyTown 7s serves as a primary showcase for national team coaches to evaluate up-and-coming talent for the player pool. With Tokyo Olympics in the rearview and the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series quickly approaching in September, performances this weekend will be even more meaningful as the Senior National Team considers its residency roster for the new Olympic cycle.
