LANGLEY, B.C.—Central Washington men's rugby shook off a slow start to stretch its season-opening winning streak to three matches with a 24-0 win at Trinity Western on Thursday.
The No. 7-ranked Wildcats (3-0) had trys from four different players, including three in the second half, for their first shutout of the season.
"Trinity Western definitely made us work hard tonight for a solid win," CWU head coach
Todd Thornley. "I was immensely proud of our effort and execution defensively and we are making some real progress on that side of the ball. Our attack again struggled with continuity, but we did play with a greater sense of urgency and created a lot of chances. We look forward to our next opportunity on Saturday to continue our progress in all areas of the game."
The Wildcats managed just one score in the first half, when
Cam Nelson scored for a 5-0 lead in the sixth minute.
That 5-0 lead held up until the second half when the Wildcats scored three times in the span of 13 minutes.
Albert O'Shannessy's try gave the Wildcats a 10-0 lead and the conversion from
Lewis Hollidge was good as the advantage swelled to 12-0.
Jack Tregoning's try and another conversion from Hollidge made it 19-0 'Cats, and
Jack Wendling finished off the scoring with a try in the 63
rd minute.
Next up the Wildcats host Washington, Noon, Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium.
