ELLENSBURG, Wash.—Seventh-ranked Central Washington men's rugby rolled to an 88-0 victory over Washington in the Wildcats' home opener, Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium.
Jonah Auvaa and
Lewis Bonjean each scored three trys for the Wildcats (4-0) as Central extended its season-opening wins streak to four matches.
Central enjoyed a lopsided victory despite playing its second match in less than 48 hours.
"I'm really happy with some of our individual play today," CWU head coach
Todd Thornley said. "We asked certain guys to play out of position due to injuries so I'm really happy with the guys who stepped in and did their jobs and focused on doing the little things well."
The Wildcats wasted no time in taking control of the match.
Gordon Smilanich and
Oscar Treacy each scored in the first 14 minutes, and
Oliver Dyrhsen, Liam Holland, Bonjean and Auvaa each added try before halftime as the Wildcats took a 40-0 at the break.
The second half was more of the same. Auvaa (twice, Treacy,
Rhys Jones, Bonjean (twice), Kenneth Pasion and
Kye Jones all tallied trys in the final 40 minutes for the Wildcats.
The road only gets tougher from here for Central, as the Wildcats begin a string of four consecutive games against Top 25 opponents when they host No. 6 BYU, Saturday, Feb. 19 at noon.
