Womack Tosses Nine Strikeout Shutout in Split Against Saint Martin's

LACEY, Wash. – Central Washington University split the opening two games of its four-game series against Saint Martin's University, 3-0 and 8-0.

QUOTABLE
"In the first game, we weren't aggressive at the plate and struck out too much," CWU Head Coach Joe DiPietro said. "In the second game, Izzy was really good. She was ahead of hitters and was in command. Offensively, we took advantage of our opportunities."

GAME ONE | CWU 0, SMU 3
The Wildcats (16-18, 7-7 GNAC) managed only four hits in the opener. Rhaney Harris (9-8) was charged with the loss. She threw a complete game and allowed three runs on six hits.

Saint Martin's (19-14, 7-3 GNAC) were scoreless through the first two innings. An RBI double in the third inning from Britney Patrick put the Saints on top. Malia Pinder gave SMU a bit of breathing room in the fifth with a two-run home run.

Alyssa Benthagen, Makenna King, Karsyn Decker, and Keegan Wise each recorded a hit for the Wildcats.

Tia Ridings (6-6) threw a complete game shutout. She struck out 12 hitters.

GAME TWO | CWU 8, SMU 0 (6 Innings)
Isabel Womack (6-5) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out nine. Three of her nine strikeouts were looking.

The Crimson and Black reached double digits in the hits category, amassing 10 in the victory. Jillian Hampson finished 3-for-4, while Brooke Jordan went 2-for-4.

Hampson drove in Harlee Carpenter from third in the top of the second for an early 1-0 lead.

An inning later, Jordan laced a single through the left side with Carpenter on second. A fielding error in left allowed Carpenter to scurry home on the play. Later in the inning, a bases loaded wild pitch brought in Allie Thiessen from third. Hampson then looped a single to left, driving in Jordan for a  4-0 lead.

Hampson was at it again in the fifth. She drove in Myiah Seaton for her second RBI of the contest. Central flipped the lineup card over later in the fifth, allowing Carpenter to drive in Hampson on a single. Wise was the would-be second run on the play, but she was cut down on a strong throw from left.

Central's final two runs came in the top of the sixth. Jordan smoked the first pitch she saw over the center field wall for a two-run home run.

Saint Martin's put their lead-off runner aboard in the sixth with a single. A fielder's choice kept a runner on first, before a lineout double play ended the game.

The Saints were marred by errors, committing eight in the backend of the doubleheader.

Thiessen, Jordan, and Seaton each crossed the plate twice. Hampson finished with three RBI, while Jordan notched a pair, and Carpenter picked up one.

UP NEXT
