KENNESAW, Ga.--Central Washington men's rugby won the Men's Gold Pool C during the pool play round of matches at the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s National Championship, posting a 2-0-1 record, on Saturday at Kennesaw State University.

The Wildcats now move on to the knock-out round on Sunday where they will face Davenport in their first challenge of the day.

"A day of grit and hard work and a ton of learning for us today," CWU head coach
Todd Thornley said. "I'm just super proud that the group figured out a way to win our pool even though we made some crucial mistakes at crucial times. I'm proud of this group but we also know that our level of performance must improve significantly in knock out matches tomorrow. Bring it on!"

Central 10, Texas A&M 0
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, opening playa t the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s National Championship with a 1-0 win against Texas A&M.

Oscar Treacy and
Mitchell Hirose each registered trys for Central in the first three minutes it the match, and the Wildcats managed to keep the Aggies off the board in gaining their first victory of the day.

Central 14, Ohio State 14
Osacr Treacy and
Campbell Robb each had trys for Central but Ohio State scored a pair of second-half trys to forge a 14-14 tie in the Central's second match of the day.

Treacy scored in the second minute and
Jack Tregoning's try gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead. Robb registered his try just before the end of the first half, and again Tregoning converted the try as Central carried a 14-0 lead into halftime.

But Ohio State was able to cross the try line twice in the second half and earned a conversion each time as the Buckeyes and Wildcats finished with a draw.

Central 19, UCLA 12
The Wildcats capped a strong showing with a comeback win against UCLA, as Central defeated the Bruins 19-12. The victory clinched the top spot in the Men's Gold pool for the Wildcats.

UCLA took an early 5-0 lead, but
Campbell Robb gave the Wildcats their first lead when his try and the conversion from
Jack Tregoning made it 7-5, Central.

The Bruins scored late in the first half, however, and carried a 12-7 lead into halftime.

In the second half,
Marques Fuala'au tied it up with a try in the 11
th minute, and Sam Dwyer scored the pool-clinching try with less than 30 seconds on the clock. Kai Jones made the conversion for the final 19-12 margin.
