KENNESAW, Ga.—Central Washington men's rugby saw its season come to an end on Sunday as the Wildcats sustained a 12-7 loss to Davenport in the quarterfinals of the USA Rugby 7s Collegiate National Championship at Kennesaw State University.
The Wildcats won their pool on Saturday but could carry that success into the Cup round on Sunday.
"Tough way to go out in knock out rugby today against a good side with a chance to win it at the end," CWU head coach
Todd Thornley said. "Just proud of this group and the growth we showed to develop in a high-pressure environment with the best teams in the nation. Look forward to our student-athletes having some time off before we start building into 2022-23 season."
Davenport opened the scoring, getting a try and conversion for an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats bounced right back as
Oscar Treacy scored a try in the sixth minute.
Jack Tregoning's try tied the match at 7-7.
Davenport scored the decisive try in the second half for a 12-7 lead as the Wildcats couldn't find the try line in the final seven minutes.
