Benthagen Nabs 'Cats First Home Run of the Season in Offensive Showings Against NNU

NAMPA, Idaho - The Central Washington Wildcat softball team concluded their road trip to Northwest Nazarene with another double-header, but this time with reverse results than from Saturday, as the Wildcats pulled out a major 14-6 victory to open the day, followed by a nail biting 5-4 victory in game two to wrap up the road trip.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JOE DIPIETRO:

"I was happy with the way we played today after Saturday's losses. I thought we hit really well in Game one, scoring in every inning. Then getting Alyssa's homerun and Myiah executing a squeeze play in game two showed what we know we can do offensively."

GAME 1

SCORING:

  • The Nighthawks responded as Maia McNicoll singled to left center seeing Clarissa Moreno come home for the 'Hawks.
  • NNU responded once again in the first inning to tie the game at two apiece as Abigail Gagnon doubled to the left side which brought Sidney Booth home.
  • The Wildcats weren't fans of the Nighthawks tying the game, so they made sure to change that led by a Karsyn Decker single bringing Allie Thiessen home to regain the lead.

  • The Wildcats kept themselves on a roll in the top of the fourth as Jordan singled up the middle scoring Hvitved.
  • Decker then reached on an error by the first baseman allowing Thiessen to score, which was backed up by King nabbing a double to right field allowing Decker and Jordan to score to increase the 'Cats lead 12-3.
  • The Nighthawks responded in the bottom of the fourth as McNicoll doubled to right field allowing Booth and Gina Skinner to score.
  • Thiessen doubled down the right field line which brought home Hvitved and Alyssa Benthagen to secure the 14-5 lead for the 'Cats.
