BILLINGS, Mont. – The Central Washington softball team (13-12, 4-2 GNAC) split the first day of the first conference road series Thursday afternoon at the Montana State Billings Yellow Jackets (9-16, 3-7 GNAC) dropping a tight first game 5-6, before bouncing back with three home runs in a 11-6 victory in game two.
GAME 1
SCORING:
- The Wildcats struck first in the top of the first as Myiah Seaton singled bringing Allie Thiessen home for the early 1-0 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets would respond immediately with back-to-back home runs by Teagan Seeton and Jazlyn Kalehuawehe as Seeton's homerun would bring Lauren Blaschak home with her for the 3-1 lead to end the first.
- Seaton would do it again for the Wildcats hitting a single to left field brining Thiessen home once again to trail 2-3.
- The 'Jackets responded immediately once again as Marin Penney homered to increase the MSUB lead to 2-4 headed to the top of the fourth.
- The top of the fourth saw Laney Kaysner reach on an error from the pitcher which allowed Jillian Hampson to sprint home.
- Harlee Carpenter hit her first home run of the season all the way in right field brining Kaysner and herself home to put the Wildcats back on top 5-4.
- The 'Jackets wouldn't settle for that as in the bottom of the fifth inning Makayla Stoker singled to left center brining Kilee Imada home to tie the game.
- Kalehuawehe put the game away with her second home run of the day this time to left center to give the 'Jackets the 5-6 lead.
PITCHING:
- Ashlee Laver started the day for the Wildcats going 5.2 innings and allowing seven hits, six runs, five earned runs, and four walks while getting five strikeouts against 30 batters.
- Payton Kessler finished the game going 0.1 innings and getting the final out which turned out to be the only batter Kessler would face and would be a strikeout.
- Alyssa Etheridge would pitch a complete game for the Yellow Jackets allowing six hits, five runs, four earned runs, and six walks while also getting eight strikeouts against 33 batters.
HITTING:
- The Wildcats finished with six hits led by Seaton with two hits.
- Carpenter, Thiessen, Hampson, and Alyssa Benthagen each recorded a hit.
- The Yellow Jackets finished with seven hits, led by Kalehuawehe with two hits.
GAME 2
SCORING:
- The Yellow Jackets struck first in the bottom of the first as Blaschak homered to right field for the early 0-1 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Seeton homered to left field putting the 'Jackets up 0-2.
- Brooke Jordan struck her first home run of the season finding the grass past the right center wall also bringing Seaton home in the process to tie the game at two apiece in the top of the fourth.
- Seaton singled up the middle allowing Carpenter and Karsyn Decker to find home to put the Wildcats in the lead 4-2 in the top of the fifth.
- The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the fifth as Seeton reached on an error by the second baseman allowing Claire Bagnell to score.
- Kalehuawehe reached on an error by the first baseman which allowed Blaschak and Seeton to score to retake the lead 4-5 in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Wildcats wouldn't have it as in the top of the sixth Makenna King singled up the middle bringing Sasha Mitchell home followed by Thiessen earning her first home run of the season bringing home Decker and King in the process to retake the lead at 8-5.
- Still in the bottom of the sixth Benthagen sent the ball flying over the right center field wall earning her fourth home run of the season and brining Seaton home in the process to increase the Wildcat lead to 10-5.
- Continuing in the bottom of the sixth, Hampson singled to center field bringing Jordan home for the 11-5 lead headed to the bottom of the sixth.
- The Yellow Jackets would get the final score as Seeton singled to right field allowing Bagnell to score for the 11-6 final.
PITCHING:
- Isabel Womack started the game for the Wildcats going 5.1 innings and allowing five hits, six runs, four earned runs, and six walks while getting eight strikeouts against 28 batters.
- Kessler relieved Womack for the final 1.2 innings allowing one run while getting one strikeout against five batters.
- Julia Qualteri started for the Yellow Jackets going 6.1 innings and allowing seven hits, four runs, four earned runs, and one walk while getting three strikeouts against 27 batters.
- Shelby Martin finished the final 0.2 innings for the 'Jackets allowing six hits, seven runs, four earned runs, and two walks while facing 11 batters.
HITTING:
- The Wildcats finished with 13 hits led by Seaton with three.
- Jordan and Mitchell each provided two hits while Carpenter, Thiessen, Benthagen, Hampson, King, and Decker each provided one.
- The Yellow Jackets finished with six hits with three different 'Jackets nabbing two hits apiece.
