Wildcats Named Top Seed in the West; Set to Host Winner of BYU/Arizona in D1A Postseason

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - After jumping out to an 8-1 record and the best ranking in program history, the Central Washington University men's rugby team has been named the top seed in the West Region of the College Rugby Association of America's (CRAA) D1A postseason.

The #1 Wildcats will host the winner of #4 BYU / #5 Arizona at Tomlinson Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 15. Kickoff time is to be determined.

"We are so proud of our season to date but know it is now time to start all over again and work hard for each other in what will be an exceptionally challenging postseason," Head Coach Todd Thornley said. "To have home-field advantage is fantastic and we cannot wait to put out a performance we can be proud of for our fans as we have a lot of growth in us. Bring it on!"

The 12-team D1A postseason includes six teams in each region, with the top-two seeds in each region earning a bye in the quarterfinals. Central Washington and Saint Mary's earned the top seeds in the West, while Navy and Lindenwood picked up those seeds in the East.

The tournament will kick off on Saturday, Apr. 8, with four matchups across the nation. In the West, #3 Cal will host #6 Cal Poly while #4 BYU is slated to host #5 Arizona for the opportunity to travel up to Ellensburg to face the Crimson and Black.

The higher seed hosts every game leading to the final, so if the Wildcats were to advance, they would host the semifinal matchup.

The D1A National Championship game will be played at SaberCats Stadium in Houston, Texas on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
