Wildcats Fall Twice to Saints to Conclude Season

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington Wildcats softball team (21-27, 9-15 GNAC) took to the field for one more double header for the season against the Saint Martin's Saints (28-16, 15-9 GNAC). The Saints took both games by a 6-2 score and a 9-1 score in five innings.
 
GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • Britney Patrick dinged a single to center field for SMU in the top of the first which allowed Haley Agena to score for the early 0-1 score.
  • The Saints tallied another in the top of the third when Patrick reached on a fielding error which allowed Agena to score once again for the 0-2 score.
  • The 'Cats would strike in the bottom of the fourth when TK was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded which allowed Harlee Carpenter to come home making it a 1-2 game.
  • Jillian Hampson would then reach on a fielder's choice which brought Myiah Seaton home to tie the game at two apiece.
  • The Saints took the lead in the top of the sixth as Olivia Schmidt would sacrifice herself by flying out to the right fielder allowing Patrick to score making it 2-3 SMU.
  • The Saints put the game away in the top of the seventh as Patrick would single to the left field scoring Agena for the third time in the game, which was followed by Olivia Matlock reaching on an error by the right fielder allowing enough time for both Megan Convery and Patrick to score making it a 2-6 game.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched another complete game for CWU, going the full seven innings and allowing eight hits, six runs, two earned runs, and two walks while getting two strikeouts against 33 batters.
  • Abby Runyon pitched the full seven innings for SMU allowing four hits, two runs, two earned runs, and two walks while getting two strikeouts against 29 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with four hits as Carpenter led the way with two.
  • Karsyn Decker and Seaton each recorded one hit apiece.
  • The Saints finished with eight hits led by Patrick with three.
 
GAME 2
 
SCORING:
 
  • Kaleena Yra was walked with the bases loaded in the top of the second bringing Destiny Salamanca home putting the Saints up 0-1 early.
  • Still in the top of the second Convery reached on a fielding error by the shortstop which allowed Kayleigh Lugowski to score putting SMU up 0-2.
  • The Saints added on two more runs in the top of the third, first when Lugowski reached on a throwing error by the third baseman allowing Megan Conerly to score, then Yra sacrificed herself to the second baseman allowing enough time for Rylee Gaudia to score putting the Saints up 0-4.
  • SMU added on again in the top of the fourth as Lugowski singled to left field which scored Conerly, putting SMU up 0-5.
  • The Wildcats nabbed their run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when Laney Kaysner sacrificed herself to the third baseman allowing Anna Fridell to score making it 1-5 SMU.
  • The Saints would nail four more runs in the top of the fifth, first when Jaycee Schmoll reached on a fielding error by the right fielder allowing Convery and Patrick to score, followed by Salamanca sacrificing herself to the pitcher allowing Marisol Bergstrom to score, and lastly Gaudia sacrificed herself to the shortstop which scored Schmoll to put SMU up 1-9.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Isabel Womack started the game and went 3.2 innings for CWU allowing two hits, five runs, two earned runs, and eight walks while getting five strikeouts against 24 batters.
  • Brina Baysinger relieved Womack the final 1.1 innings allowing two hits, four runs, three earned runs, and two walks against nine batters.
  • Tia Ridings started the game for SMU going four innings and allowing three hits, one run, one earned run, and three walks while getting seven strikeouts against 18 batters.
  • Chloe Leverington relieved Ridings the final inning facing three batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats recorded three hits, two by Hampson and one by Brooke Jordan.
  • The Saints recorded four hits with Conerly recording two.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will enter the offseason having learned a lot from this season, and with a bulk of the roster returning next year with some new talent coming in the Wildcats will be ready for another stellar campaign next season. Thank you to the four seniors: Harlee Carpenter, Janelle Gary, Izzy Womack, and Myiah Seaton for everything they've done for Wildcat softball and every Wildcat wishes them the best moving forward in their lives.
