Wildcats Split with Wolves

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington softball team (17-19, 5-7 GNAC) ended their weekend series at Western Oregon (21-19, 10-4 GNAC) with a split falling 0-4 in game one before bouncing back for the 3-2 victory in game two to avoid the weekend sweep. 
 
GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Wolves struck first in the third inning when Katelyn McGough doubled to center field bringing in Logan Carlos and Carly Turpen for the 2-0 lead. 
  • WOU continued in the third when Sophie Franklin singled to center field bringing McGough home for the 3-0 lead. 
  • Western Oregon capped off the scoring in game one in the fifth inning when Natalie Willoughby homered to center field making it a 4-0 game in favor of WOU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched another complete game going six innings and allowing seven hits, four runs, one earned run, and two walks while getting three strikeouts against 28 batters.
  • Maddie Mayer pitched another complete game for WOU going seven innings and allowing five hits and three walks while getting six strikeouts against 29 batters.

SCORING:
 
  • All the scoring would happen in the fourth inning as Myiah Seaton would get it started scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Falor would follow by singling up the middle bringing Serena Perez home for the 2-0 lead.
  • Jillian Hampson would cap the Wildcats scoring by singling to left center and a throwing error would advance Falor home making it a 3-0 lead.
  • The Wolves in the bottom of the fourth would strike as Bella Valdes doubled to left centering bringing Carley Schlag home making it a 3-1 game in favor of CWU. 
  • The Wolves inched closer in the bottom of the seventh as Maddie Doig singled down the right field line scoring Valdes ending the game at 3-2 in favor of CWU. 
 
PITCHING: 
 
  • Isabel Womack pitched a complete game going the full seven innings and allowing four hits, two runs, two earned runs, and three walks while getting seven strikeouts against 28 batters. 
  • Chelsea Smith pitched a complete game pitching seven innings and allowing four hits, three runs, three earned runs, and four walks while getting 12 strikeouts against 29 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with four hits as Brooke Jordan, Hopkins, Falor, and Hampson all recorded one hit apiece.
  • The Wolves also finished with four hits apiece as four different Wolves nabbed a hit in the game. 
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will head back to Ellensburg for home games for the first time in almost a month when they host GNAC leader the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks (22-14, 10-2 GNAC) for a four-game Friday and Saturday series. Saturday's games are set to be the second annual Gold Star Family Games honoring fallen members of the military and their families. Both days game one are set for a 1:00 p.m. first-pitch with game two each day to start approximately 30 minutes after.
