ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University track & field team recorded nine student-athlete selections to the College Sport Communicators Division II Academic All-District Track & Field Team.
"It is always great when our student-athletes receive recognition for the work they do in the classroom," Head Coach
Kevin Adkisson said. "These young people are prime examples of those who have high standards and maintain a strong focus on their academic goals, while also pushing to be the best they can in our sport."
First, the Wildcats with a 4.0 GPA are
Angus Beaton and
Sarah Sewell. Beaton, a five-time GNAC All-Academic selection, is working on his master's degree in Information Technology & Administrative Management. The Olympia, Wash. native finished his career strong, recording PRs in the shot put and hammer throw in his final two meets.
As for Sewell, she's pursuing a degree in Business Administration. The Mill Creek, Wash. native had a successful sophomore season, competing in 16 meets and recording PRs in nine different events.
After Sewell,
McCall DeChenne (3.85 GPA, Biology),
Payton Elenbaas (3.83 GPA, Physical Education & School Health), and
Madison Thompson (3.81 GPA, Hospitality Management) picked up the honor.
The highlight of DeChenne's season included a provisional qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:02.19. Over the course of the year, Thompson logged PRs in four events and Elenbaas earned a 6th-place finish at the GNAC Championships in the discus throw.
Rounding out the rest of the honorees on the men's team were
Braydon Maier (3.77 GPA, Secondary Education),
Ty Savely (3.68 GPA, Sport Management),
Chris Hines (3.65 GPA, Sport Management), and
Zack Sundt (3.56 GPA, Exercise Science).
Maier, Savely, Hines, and Sundt all made strides this past season by upping their career-best marks. Hines registered six PRs, Savely and Sundt recorded two each, and Maier wrapped up his career with a PR in the discus throw.
