Wildcats Fall Twice to Nighthawks

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University fell in both games of the day two double-header against the 24th-ranked Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks Saturday afternoon.

SCORING:
 
  • Mari Kamemoto reached first base thanks to a throwing error by the second baseman allowing time for Emma Bumatay to cross home for the 1-0 NNU lead in the top of the second.
  • Emma Mulligan homered to center field in the top of the third to make it 2-0 NNU.
  • Later in the third Abigail Gagnon singled to center field to score Clarissa Moreno making it 3-0 NNU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched the full seven innings for the Wildcats allowing nine hits, three runs two of which are earned, and one walk while striking out two against 31 batters.
  • Sidney Booth pitched the full seven innings earning her second shutout of the weekend in the process and only allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five against 27 batters.

SCORING:
 
  • NNU started things with a bang as Bumatay drilled a home run to center field scoring Gagnon and Booth in the process for the early 3-0 Nighthawk lead.
  • Decker would put the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the second when she singled up the middle to score Mitchell making it 3-1 NNU.
  • The Nighthawks responded in the top of the third when Booth singled to right center scoring Mulligan to make it 4-1 Nighthawks.
  • Jillian Hampson would cut the NNU lead in half doubling to right field to score TK Kai in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2 NNU.
  • In the top of the fifth Gagnon singled to left field to score Moreno followed by Bumatay reaching on a fielder's choice scoring Booth to make it 6-2 NNU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched the full seven innings for CWU allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out six against 30 batters.
  • Charlotte Forniss started the game for the Nighthawks pitching 2.1 innings allowing five hits, two runs one of which was earned, and one walk against 14 batters.
  • Gina Skinner came on to pitch the final 4.2 innings for NNU allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three against 18 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with nine hits led by Hampson and Serena Perez each with two.
  • Makenna King, Decker, Mitchell, Benthagen, and Kai all recorded one hit apiece.
  • Hampson and Decker each recorded one RBI apiece.
  • Kai and Decker each drew one walk.
  • The Nighthawks finished with nine hits led by Booth and Gagnon with three apiece.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • The Wildcats still lead the all-time series 83-33.
  • NNU now holds an eight-game win streak over the Wildcats.
  • The Wildcats are 42-13 against NNU in Ellensburg.
