Wildcats Fall Twice to Saints in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The Central Washington University softball team fell in the first two games of a three-game series at the seventh-ranked NAIA program, Our Lady of the Lake Tuesday afternoon.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
 
GAME 1
  • Final: Central Washington (1), Our Lady of the Lake (9) 5 inn.
  • Records: CWU (0-6), OLLU (3-0)

  • Final: Central Washington (1), Our Lady of the Lake (2) 8 inn.

GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Saints struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Cassandra Valdez nailed a home run to center field scoring Madison Garza in the process for the early 2-0 lead.
  • OLLU added on in later in the first inning when Ava Hernandez singled to left field scoring Natalie Rodriguez for the 3-0 lead.
  • The Saints continued their onslaught into the second inning when Garza homered to left field, scoring Arianna Alejandro for the 5-0 lead.
  • Later in the second inning Rodriguez homered to center field scoring Valdez and Kayla Dreese for the 8-0 lead.
  • The Wildcats would get on the board in the fourth inning when Brooke Blocker singled to left field to score Laney Kaysner, making it 8-1 OLLU.
  • The Saints would end the game as Valdez singled to left field to score Alejandro and make it a 9-1 final in five innings in favor of Our Lady of the Lake.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver started for the Wildcats lasing 1.1 innings allowing five hits and five runs, four of which were earned against 10 batters.
  • Olivia Ross came on to pitch the final three innings allowing nine hits, four runs, three of which were earned, and two walks while getting two strikeouts against 20 batters.
  • Valdez pitched the full five innings for the Saints allowing two hits and one run while getting four strikeouts against 17 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with two hits on the day as Kaysner and Blocker each recorded a hit.
  • Blocker received the Wildcats sole RBI on the day.
  • Our Lady of the Lake finished with 14 hits with four different Saints earning two hits.
 
GAME 2
 
SCORING:
 
  • Rodriguez broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when she singled to right field to score Dreese and take the 1-0 lead for the Saints.
  • Blocker would receive her second RBI of the day as she singled to center field to once again score Kaysner and tie the game one apiece.
  • The Saints would secure the victory in extra innings when Rodriguez sacrificed herself by flying out to the left fielder to score Garza giving the Saints the 2-1 victory.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched al 7.2 innings for the Wildcats allowing four hits, two runs, one of which was earned, and four walks while getting four strikeouts against 31 batters.
  • Hernandez pitched all eight innings for the Saints allowing five hits, one run, and three walks while getting nine strikeouts against 31 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with five hits.
  • Karsyn Decker, Makenna King, TK Kai, Kaysner, and Blocker all recorded a hit.
  • Blocker secured her second RBI of the day.
  • Kaysner, Decker, and Jillian Hampson all drew a walk.
  • The Saints finished with four hits with Dreese leading the way with two.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats and Saints will duke it out one more time tomorrow to wrap up the Wildcats Texas road trip.
  • First pitch is set for 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time from the OLLU Softball Field.
