Wildcats Season Comes to a Close in Day Two of the GNAC Tournament

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Central Washington Wildcats softball team fall to the Saint Martin's Saints in day two of action in the GNAC Tournament to conclude the 2024 season Friday afternoon. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUPS:
 
  • Final: Central Washington (1), Saint Martin's (4).
  • Records: CWU (17-30), SMU (26-19).
  • Location: Viking Field, Bellingham, Wash. 
 
SCORING: 
 
  • The Saints came out swinging immediately in this game. Heather Ebner hit a double to right field allowing Ashley Goodale to score in the top of the first inning making it 1-0 SMU.
  • Ebner advanced to home on a throwing error later in the top of the first to make it 2-0 Saints.
  • Destiny Conerly scored on a single hit by Mia Zachary in the top of the second inning to increase the Saints lead to 3-0.
  • In the top of the sixth inning, Ebner hit one up the middle allowing Zachary to score and make it 4-0 Saints.
  • Sasha Mitchell smashed the first home run of the GNAC Tournament in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-1.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus started for the Wildcats pitching 3.2 innings. She allowed four hits, three runs, three walks, and struck out one of the eighteen batters faced.
  • Ashlee Laver stepped in for the Wildcats and finished the game off, allowing five hits, one run, zero walks, and struck out two out of the sixteen batters faced.
  • Chloe Leverington pitched all seven innings for the Saints allowing, four hits, one run, zero walks, and struck out four out of the twenty-five batters faced.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with four hits with one hit coming from each Mitchell, Makenna King, Laver, and Laney Kaysner.
  • The Saints ended with nine hits, led by Ebner with three.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • The Wildcats and the Saints have met 153 times with CWU owning the series of 84-37.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will head back home to Ellensburg and their season has come to an end and get ready for a 2025 season that will feature a lot of new faces eager to make their mark on Wildcat softball history.
